Filipe Paúnde, member of Frelimo’s Political Commission and head of the central assistance brigade for Nampula province, says that Frelimo is always available for dialogue, but not for negotiating power with Venâncio Mondlane, presidential candidate supported by Podemos.
Paúnde claims in his justification that Frelimo’s election for another term is a genuine popular decision.
Filipe Paúnde, who was previously secretary-general of Frelimo, laid out this position at a press conference this Wednesday (30-10) after arriving in the city of Nampula to thank members and supporters in the province for the trust placed in Frelimo and its candidate, Daniel Francisco Chapo.
“Let’s not get confused: dialogue is one thing, but negotiation is another. Frelimo has always been guided by dialogue, but be careful not to confuse dialogue with negotiation. Dialogue is for us all to be at peace, because the Mozambican people cast millions of votes for Frelimo, giving them 195 deputies. The Mozambican people cast more than four million votes for Daniel Francisco Chapo, 70% of the vote. We are talking because Frelimo cannot talk to Venâncio and because Venâncio cannot talk to Frelimo. Where is Venâncio now?” the Ikweli portal quotes Paúnde as saying.
Paúnde also lashed out at Mondlane’s stance.
“My question is….. He could say, look, we are all brothers. I would say that, in the first place comes the country, which is Mozambique. If I am a citizen, I am not interested in destroying Mozambique, whatever the reason. I am here to build Mozambique. When we start burning down houses and burning private and state vehicles, are we building Mozambique? It is necessary to acknowledge that some actions cross over from the political sphere to the criminal one,” Paúnde said.
