The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) today called on political actors to comply with the “principle of legality” and to follow with “calm and serenity” the announcement of the election results, scheduled for Thursday.
“The PRM urges the Mozambican people in general, and in particular all leaders, directors, members and supporters of political parties to comply with the principle of legality and to follow calmly and serenely the official announcement of the election results, acting in a spirit of patriotism, civility and civility during and after the event in question,” appealed the police spokesperson, Orlando Mudumane.
At a press conference in Maputo, the Mozambican police “discouraged acts of vandalism, violence and public disorder in the country”, in light of the two-day strike and demonstrations called by presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane for Thursday and Friday.
“The PRM urges everyone to cooperate strictly with the corporation in all circumstances, remaining vigilant and alert, and not allowing themselves to be manipulated by individuals who spread incendiary speeches and misinformation through social media with the intention of causing upheaval and social chaos,” concluded Mudumane.
The Mozambican National Electoral Commission (CNE) will announce this Thursday, at 2h30m p.m., in the Joaquim Chissano International Conference Centre, the results of the general elections of October 9, which still have to be validated and proclaimed, later, by the Constitutional Council.
“The announcement will be on Thursday,” said CNE spokesperson Paulo Cuinica, on Monday, when questioned by Lusa.
As Lusa had previously reported presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane called for two days of national “peaceful” strike and demonstration in Mozambique starting on Thursday.
“We are going to sacrifice two days of our lives so that we can all demonstrate. And we don’t need to inform the police, the municipality”, announced Venâncio Mondlane.
“The country must remain at a standstill during these two days”, he stated.
In a speech in Maputo today, the President of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, called for “a tragedy, which was the barbaric murder of two compatriots” not to be used as a “fuse to inflict more suffering on other compatriots”.
“Let us not use a tragedy, which was the barbaric murder of two compatriots, repudiated by all Mozambicans, by the whole world, by the Government, let us not use this as a fuse to inflict more suffering on other compatriots, who may see their daily and incessant search for their livelihood limited”, stated the Mozambican head of state.
The general elections of October 9th included the seventh presidential elections, simultaneously with legislative elections and elections for provincial assemblies and governors.
