Rede Viária de Moçambique (REVIMO) was this Wednesday (23-10) set to reopen the so-called “Ramp N”, which provides access to the Maputo-Katembe bridge, after about two months of work on site.
According to ‘Domingo’, the work began last August and consisted of the construction of a new retaining wall, reinforcement of the support structure and repair of the crack in the ramp pavement that compromised the safety of users.
“These improvements reinforce the safety and resistance of the infrastructure, as well as ensuring greater comfort for drivers using this vital link between Maputo and Katembe,” the company said.
Access to the Maputo-KaTembe bridge viaduct connecting to United Nations Avenue in Maputo city was suspended temporarily to allow the repairs to be carried out.
According to the bridge concessionaire REVIMO, the closure of the viaduct was due to a landslide caused by works carried out by a private company nearby, which led to the partial collapse of one of the supporting pillars.
