Mozambique: Connection between Nampula and Nacala is restored

The government may invest US$200 million (12 billion meticais) from the Millennium Challenge Account on the construction of a new Mocuba Ring Road and alternative bridge over the Licungo river in Zambézia.
Construction of the alternative bridge over the Licungo river and the Mocuba ring road will begin in September next year, and could last five years.
The information was released on Saturday in Quelimane by the Executive Director of the Millennium Challenge Account Mozambique, Augusta Maita, following a meeting with project implementation partners.
The bridge will be 1.9 kilometres long, and the ring road, 19 kilometres.
Augusta Maita says that public consultations and technical studies are underway to ensure the viability of the project.
The United States of America is, through the Millennium Challenge Account, providing a total of US$500 million over a five-year period for the implementation of environmental protection, agricultural development and rural connectivity projects.
Secretary of State for Zambézia Cristina Mafumo said that the funding would boost economic growth in the country.
