At around 11 am this Monday, while the presidential candidate supported by Podemos was giving an interview to the Mozambican and foreign press, the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) fired tear gas at Venâncio Mondlane, his supporters and the press who were at the scene.
As soon as the gas was fired, Venâncio Mondlane, the journalists and the civilians who wanted to demonstrate at the OMM Square, fled the scene. Venâncio Mondlane then got into a vehicle, which stopped nearby to pick him up, and drove off.
The tear gas was fired minutes after Venâncio Mondlane had called on the protesters to return home, as the main objective of the day had been achieved.
The presidential candidate promised to intervene today, on social media, in order to give an update on the next steps of the demonstration.
According to reports, people were injured
