Mozambique and Malawi are signing in the city of Lilongwe this Friday (18-10), an agreement to simplify procedures, with a view to facilitating the flow of cross-border trade and consequently increasing trade volumes between the two countries.
Once the agreement is signed, Mozambique and Malawi will have the opportunity to export and import 47 products, agricultural and manufactured, exempted from customs duties up to US$1,000.
The agreement has taken about three years and an equal number of negotiation rounds to close, bringing together experts from both countries to discuss the terms and conditions to be implemented.
Mozambique’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, Silvino Moreno, who is in Lilongwe to sign the agreement, called it is another step forward in diplomatic and commercial relations with Malawi, a strategic business development partner.
The agreement reaffirms the decision of the 32nd meeting of the SADC Council of Trade Ministers, which urged SADC Member States to engage in negotiations towards the implementation of a simplified regional trade regime.
