Mozambique’s ruling Frelimo Party, and its presidential candidate, Daniel Chapo, have won last Wednesday’s general elections in the central province of Manica.
Frelimo and Chapo won about two thirds of the votes cast.
The provincial results, delivered on Monday in the provincial capital, Chimoio, by the Provincial Elections Commission (CPE), were as follows. The names of candidates and parties are in the order they appeared on the ballot paper.
Presidential election
Parliamentary election
The most populous province, the northern province of Nampula, failed to meet the legal deadline for declaring its provincial result. This was because of the delay in declaring the “intermediate” (district) result for Nampula district. The delay was caused by the arrest of the district director of STAE (Electoral Administration Technical Secretariat) on Saturday on charges of embezzlement.
The Nampula district results, for all 730 polling stations, were announced on Monday, and were as follows:
Presidential election
Parliamentary election
All these results are provisional, until they are confirmed by the National Elections Commission (CNE), and validated by the Constitutional Council.
