Mozambique’s ruling Frelimo Party, and its presidential candidate, Daniel Chapo, have won last Wednesday’s general elections in all seven of Maputo city’s municipal districts.
The results for the last four districts, announced by the district elections commissions (CDEs) on Saturday, were as follows.
The candidates and parties are listed in the order they appeared on the ballot paper.
For the parliamentary election, AIM has omitted the large number of minor parties who won a derisory total of votes. Some even won no votes at all!
Presidential election
Lutero Simango (MDM): 3,807 (3.1 per cent of valid votes)
Daniel Chapo (Frelimo): 62,882 (51.16 per cent)
Venâncio Mondlane (independent): 47,728 (38.83 per cent)
Ossufo Momade (Renamo): 8,494 (6.91 per cent)
Parliamentary election
MDM: 5,892 (4.63 per cent)
Frelimo: 66,375 (52.12 per cent)
Renamo: 11,176 (8.78 per cent)
Podemos: 38,279 (30.41 per cent)
Presidential election
Lutero Simango (MDM): 4,340 (4.45 per cent)
Daniel Chapo (Frelimo): 57,645 (58.55 per cent)
Venâncio Mondlane (independent): 20,419 (20.96 per cent)
Ossufo Momade (Renamo): 15,623 (16.04 per cent)
Parliamentary election
MDM: 9,163 (7.48 per cent)
Frelimo: 81,605 (66.6 per cent)
Renamo: 19,782 (16.14 per cent)
Podemos: 10, 395 (8.48 per cent)
Presidential election:
Lutero Simango (MDM): 219 (1.55 per cent)
Daniel Chapo (Frelimo): 9,116 (64.37 per cent)
Venâncio Mondlane (independent) 4,564 (32.23 per cent)
Ossufo Momade (Renamo): 262 (1.85 per cent)
Parliamentary election
MDM: 2,171 (16.11 per cent)
Frelimo: 6,017 (44.65 per cent)
Renamo: 525 (3.9 per cent)
Podemos: 4,147 (30.77 per cent)
Presidential election
Lutero Simango (MDM): 60 (2.09 per cent)
Daniel Chapo (Frelimo): 2,275 (79.32 per cent)
Venâncio Mondlane (Independent): 438 (15.27 per cent)
Ossufo Momade (Renamo): 93 (3.31 per cent)
Parliamentary election
MDM: 50 (1.8 per cent)
Frelimo: 2,159 (79.73 per cent)
Renamo: 114 (4.21 per cent)
Podemos: 333 (12.3 per cent)
All these results are provisional, until they have been confirmed by the National Elections Commission (CNE), and validated by the Constitutional Council.
