Mozambican students head to the UK for Chevening scholarships

The National Library of Mozambique (BNM) and consulting firm KPMG signed on Friday in Maputo a memorandum of understanding that provides support to public libraries across the country.
The event took place on the final day of the outdoors book fair intended to encourage the love of reading and organised as part of the celebrations of the National library’s 55th anniversary on 28 August.
Participating in the initiative are several entities related to book publishing, including publishers Texto Ndjira, Edições Paulinas , Alcance Editores, Plural Editores and the National Press, exhibiting for the first time in this event.
National Library director Jorge Jairoce said that the book fair initiative has now become an annual event and the idea is to provide more and more books on different themes.
The celebrations also provided an opportune moment to sign the memorandum of understanding with auditing firm KPMG, who are to support the purchase of equipment for public libraries.
In addition to this new partnership signed on Friday, the National Library also has agreements with the Portuguese Language Bibliographic Fund (FBLP), Banco Comercial e de Investimentos (BCI), Mozambique Telecommunications (TDM), the School of journalism (ESJ), the Faculty of Social and Philosophical Sciences at the Portuguese Cultural Centre and the Chinese Embassy.
It also has partnerships with foreign institutions such as the National Library Foundation of Rio de Janeiro and Zheijiang Provincial Library.
Mozambique’s National Library was established by Legislative Diploma number 2116 of August 28, 1961.
