In order to better facilitate the movement of people and goods, the General Commander of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique, Bernardino Rafael, has ordered the elimination of improvised road inspection posts set up by agents of the Traffic Police, Protection Police, and others.
The instruction, dated September 19, states that vehicle inspections should only take place at 23 pre-established official control posts along National Roads 1, 4, 6, and 7. Intermediate posts are reserved for speed control, which must be conducted in locations with good visibility and properly marked with cones, and the officers on duty must carry the Order of the Day.
The document emphasizes that the task of signalling mandatory stops for vehicles is the exclusive responsibility of the Traffic Police agents, and at each inspection post, only a maximum of four traffic agents and two protection agents should be stationed. It also prohibits motorcycle officers from setting up their own inspection posts and stopping motorists unless there is a flagrant violation of traffic rules.
