The Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE) in Cabo Delgado province has begun the allocation of voting materials to the districts in preparation for the presidential, legislative, and provincial assembly elections scheduled for October 9th of this year.
According to provincial STAE director Cassamo Camal, the first materials to be allocated are ballot boxes and voting booths. He added that, because of insecurity in some districts, STAE will have to distribute voting materials and deploy members of the polling stations by sea or air.
“I’m referring to coastal districts such as Mocimboa da Praia, Palma, Quissanga, Macomia, and Ibo. We have information about explosive devices planted on some roads. We don’t want to put polling station members or the voting materials at risk,” Camal said.
Camel guaranteed that the main component kits, containing voter rolls and ballot papers, would be at the voting locations one day before the election date, “except for cities like Pemba, Montepuez, and the town of Chiúre, [where] the materials will be allocated in the early hours of the same voting day”.
“The provincial STAE headquarters is currently receiving the main materials, cataloguing them and packing them in cases. Everything is being carefully organized so that nothing is overlooked,” Camel said.
