On Friday, U.S. Ambassador to Mozambique Peter H. Vrooman joined Mozambican Armed Defence Forces (FADM) service members for the closing ceremony of the Sixth Joint Combined Exchange Training (JCET) aimed at strengthening and building a more resilient Mozambican defence force.
The FADM was represented by Brigadier General Nhabinde (Army Inspector General), and COL Raibo (Head of Army Information Section), respectively. Together with Ambassador Vrooman was CPT Michael Putnam, the U.S. Special Forces Detachment Commander and members
of the Defence Attaché Office and Office of Security Cooperation.
Members of a U.S. Army Special Forces team conducted a six-week training with sixty-three FADM Commandos. This training builds on the five previous JCETs and numerous military-to-military engagements that help the FADM conduct counterterrorism operations in Cabo Delgado.
“This JCET has been particularly special because it has been enriched with a focus on Civil Affairs, reflecting our commitment to civil military relations and the crucial role it plays in collective security. This training not only improved your tactical and operational skills, but also provided insight into the complex interactions between military forces and civilian communities. We recognize that our missions extend beyond the battlefield and into the heart of the communities we serve,” said Ambassador Vrooman.
These ongoing security cooperation activities support Mozambique’s efforts to create a more stable, secure, and inclusive nation. The U.S. Embassy in Mozambique and the U.S. Department of Defence remain dedicated to working with the FADM to improve civilian safety and security in Mozambique. This ceremony recognizes the partnership between the armed forces of both nations.
