Mozambique: Mini-bus drivers block Maputo-Katembe bridge - AIM report

The Portuguese Criminal Investigation Police (Polícia Judiciária – PJ) are investigating the fatal fall of a Mozambican medical student, aged 22, from the fourth floor of an apartment building in Colinas do Cruzeiro, in Odivelas, on the outskirts of Lisbon, at 5:00 a.m. local time (6:00 a.m. in Maputo) this Saturday (24-08).
The Mozambican embassy in Portugal says, cited by Radio Mozambique, that authorities are investigating the cause of death of a Mozambican student, Amarah Shakirah Marques Aliz.
Amara Shakirah Marques Aliz was studying medicine in Portugal and was allegedly thrown from the fourth floor of the building.
In an exclusive interview with Rádio Moçambique, the Mozambican ambassador to Portugal, Stela Pinto Novo Zeca, provided some details about the incident.
Ambassador Stela Zeca says tha the Embassy of Mozambique in Portugal sent an official to the Odivelas police station where he received confirmation of the occurrence and learned that procedures were underway to clarify the case. By then, the police had heard neigbour and also some persons who were supposedly in the victim’s company, the ambassador said. The body had been sent to the Institituto Medico: Legal to be subjected to an autopsy.
The family has appointed two lawyers to represent them in the criminal investigation procedures.
According to AIM Moçambique, the PJ was called to the scene, and are investigating the case as a possible crime, according to the newspaper ‘Correio da Manhã’.
Residents report that the victim went to the window and screamed for help. She was then allegedly thrown from the window, and succumbed to her injuries.
Neighbours say they heard a loud bang. Residents in the quiet, upmarket area say that they have never witnessed anything like this before.
According to information obtained by AIM Moçambique in Lisbon, the young woman was a university student in Lisbon and was dating a citizen of Nigerian origin.
