The National Elections Commission (CNE) announced this Friday morning in Maputo the provision of 260 million meticais for the electoral campaigns of the 37 political parties competing in the elections of October 9.
Most of the funds will go to the three parties with seats in parliament, namely Frelimo, Renamo, and MDM. Each party will receive a little over 40 million meticais.
The remaining parties will receive amounts ranging from one to 10 million meticais.
Each of the four candidates running for President of the Republic – Lutero Simango, Daniel Chapo, Ossufo Momade and Venancio Mondlane – will receive the same amount: 21.5 million meticais, making a total of 86 million meticais.
The CNE will deliver the amounts in three tranches. The disbursement of the second tranche (25%) is subject to evidence of the use of the first (50%), and the third (25%) for the use of the second.
Valid expenses for the use of the money include spending on propaganda material, travel expenses and allowances within the scope of the campaign, as well as the management of the bank accounts to which the funds are to be channelled.
The electoral campaign starts on August 24th, according to the electoral calendar.
