The High Council of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PGR) announced on Wednesday, through a press release, the dismissal of a public prosecutor and a court officer and the expulsion of four court officers and assistant court officers from the staff of the Provincial Public Prosecutor’s Offices of Maputo City, Manica, Gaza and Tete, for using their functions for their own benefit and to the detriment of third parties. The measure was taken during the 22nd Ordinary Session of the Plenary, held from July 30 to August 1, 2024.
The four officers, with the ranks of Provincial Law Clerk, Assistant Law Clerk, District Judicial Clerk and District Proceedings Officer, assigned to the Provincial Prosecutors’ Offices of Gaza and Tete, are accused of soliciting and receiving monetary amounts to facilitate the speed of procedural proceedings and the shelving of proceedings under investigation and for the theft and use of seized counterfeit foreign notes.
In the same vein, the Public Prosecutor’s Office dismissed a judicial officer, with the rank of District Law Clerk, from the staff of the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Manica for soliciting and receiving monetary amounts, to facilitate the speed of procedural proceedings, and a prosecutor from the staff of the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Maputo City, for irregularly processing a criminal case against a foreign citizen, indicted for international drug trafficking, to the detriment of justice and the Mozambican state.
“The aforementioned sanctions result from the violation of professional duties and principles, namely, diligence, legality, dignity, loyalty and honesty,” the note states.
The justice body also adds that criminal proceedings were instituted, because there was evidence of criminal offences being committed.
