Mozambique: The first meeting of the new Council of State has been cancelled

The Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique this Monday begins the ninth legislature’s last week of work before the general elections of October 9, with the end of the 10th ordinary session and the presence of the President of the Republic.
The high point of the session will be on Wednesday, with the State of the Nation address by head of state Filipe Nyusi – his last, since he will not run again, having completed the constitutional limit of two terms.
Deputies had scheduled to, today and Tuesday. debate the revision of the law of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) and the law of the National Criminal Investigation Service (Sernic). The revision of these laws has just this morning been postponed to the next legislature.

They will also discuss the review of the statute of judicial magistrates and the draft law on the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly of the Republic.
Thursday will be dedicated to the closing speeches of the leaders of the three parliamentary benches, marking the end of the ninth legislature, which began in January, 2020.
The Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo, the ruling party) holds a qualified majority of 184 of the 250 seats, followed by the Mozambican National Resistance (Renamo, the main opposition party) with 60 deputies, and the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM, the third largest party) with six seats.
The presidential elections on October 9 will take place simultaneously with the legislative and provincial elections.
