Mozambique: Shortage of foreign currency undermines productive sectors – CTA | AIM report

FNB Moçambique opened its branch in Matola this Tuesday (30-07), after undergoing structural rehabilitation lasting several months.
The ceremony was attended by the President of the Municipal Council of the City of Matola, Júlio Parruque; the Director of the Bank of Mozambique in Matola, Paula Libombo; the CEO of FNB Mozambique, Peter Blenkinsop; members of the Executive Committee of FNB Mozambique and guests including customers and partners of the Bank.
Speaking at the inauguration, FNB Retail Director Nasser Meggi said that, “this branch has undergone a complete refurbishment , in line with our strategy of modernising the image of our service areas and providing a superior banking experience to our Customers. This is a significant milestone in our journey to offer improved conditions, convenience and excellent service”.
Representing the Governor of the Bank of Mozambique, the Director of the Central Bank, Matola Branch, Paula Libombo, stressed that the expansion of financial services throughout the country represents financial inclusion, which is the mission of the institution she represents. Libombo highlighted that, “the reopening of this branch aims to offer greater comfort and convenience to its users, while also contributing to the increase in levels of financial inclusion in the country, and reinforcing our prospects for greater banking of the economy, which necessarily involves increasing the supply of financial intermediation services. It is our expectation that this branch will provide quality products and services, increasingly closer to their recipients, focusing on creativity, innovation and advocacy”.
In turn, Matola Mayor Júlio Parruque, recalled that 60% of the population of Matola is economically active, therefore needs a bank nearby to facilitate the management of their finances.
“The renovation and modernization of this branch is a testament to the Bank’s commitment to our city and to the future of financial services in general in the country. The renovation of this branch brings countless benefits to the Matola community. With new technologies and improved infrastructure, customers will now be able to enjoy faster and more efficient service,” Mayor Parruque said.
It is worth mentioning that the renovation and modernization includes the implementation of digitalization and simplification processes across the institution’s various channels, in order to provide greater autonomy to customers.
Occupying an area of 300 m², the new space, which has already reopened to the public, will be dedicated particularly to the retail, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSME) segments, in addition to offering an area dedicated to private customers.
Nasser Meggi concluded by thanking everyone involved in this project: “We thank everyone who contributed to making this moment possible: our dedicated team, partners and, of course, our customers, whose continued support and trust have been fundamental.”
