FACIM 2016, the 52nd edition of the Maputo International Fair, opened today in Maputo province’s Marracuene district, and will run until September 4.
This year’s event sees the participation of 33 countries, with Ireland and Belarus making their first appearance.
The Minister of Economy and Finance, Adriano Maleiane was to visit the exhibition in the morning, and is expected to visit the main pavilions, including the Mozambique stand, where all the provinces’ private sector support institutions and national companies are represented.
The minister also visited the Kongwa pavilion, where some of the ministries are exhibiting, and Nachingueia, which groups together companies from Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, Indonesia, the Nordic countries, Macao, Thailand, Britain, South Korea and Dubai.
Adriano Maleiane also visited the Matchedje pavilion, where Italian and French companies are represented, and Chai, where Angola, South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland, Tanzania, North Sudan, Malawi and Zimbabwe are located.
Joao Macaringue, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Export Promotion (IPEX), organiser of the event, said yesterday that work on the event was almost complete, and at least 2,350 domestic companies and 630 foreign ones were ready to open. Last year FACIM was attended by 2,250 companies.
He added that, despite current adversities, everything possible was being done to showcase the country’s potential, adding that the presence of such a significant number of domestic and foreign exhibitors is a sign that the country remains a credible destination for investors.
The fair provides a platform for exchanges and cooperation with activities including exhibitions, seminars, promotional meetings and business matching. Around 160 seminars with topics addressing the enhancement of national capacity are on the programme.
Overall, it is expected that 87,000 people will visit FACIM this year, 3,900 more than in 2015.
To facilitate the easy movement of visitors, Maputo Public Transport is ensuring multiple connections from its networks to the Ricatla exhibition grounds in Marracuene on the outskirts of the capital
