Following an outbreak of bovine tuberculosis in neighbouring Zambia, the government of Tete province has prohibited the movement of cattle from the districts of Chifunde, Marávia and Zumbo to the rest of the province.
The action aims to safeguard animal health, as the districts share an extensive border with the Republic of Zambia, a country where the disease has already caused some deaths among animals.
In parallel, samples are being collected in livestock corrals on the border to be sent to laboratories in the province and Maputo.
Directors of economic activities in the districts of Chifunde and Marávia have meanwhile given assurances that there is still no sign of bovine tuberculosis in the province.
