Mozambique: Coral Sul exports 100th shipment of gas

Power supply has been restored in Cabo Delgado, one day after the blackout, due to an anomaly in the high voltage network. This is a guarantee given this Tuesday morning to Rádio Moçambique, by the Director of Electricidade de Moçambique at the Pemba Area Customer Service.
Hermínio Hassamo told Rádio Moçambique that electricity supply in Cabo Delgado province was re-established in the early hours of today, as a result of several operations.
More than 160,000 people in the Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, in the north of the country, were without electricity due to an anomaly in the high voltage network, Eletricidade de Moçambique (EDM) announced yesterday.
“An anomaly in the high voltage network (…) caused the interruption of power supply to the province of Cabo Delgado. In effect, around 166,412 customers are without electricity”, the company said yesterday, in a statement quoted by Lusa news agency.
“While work is taking place on the ground to identify and repair the fault, EDM’s technical teams are ensuring the supply of energy to essential services through alternative routes”, the document stated.
EDM further added that, during the period of technical intervention, all electrical installations should be considered “permanently live”.
Power outage in Malulo, Niassa
Meanwhile, in Niassa, another province in northern Mozambique, more than ten thousand families in the Malulo village, in Sanga district. have been without electricity since Saturday due to vandalism on the line.
“They knocked down two wooden poles, leaving nearly 10,067 families without electricity,” said the director of the EDM Service Area, Heitor Matimele, quoted by the media yesterday.
According to Matimele, the poles of the medium voltage transmission line were knocked down using blunt instruments.
“We assume they used machetes or axes,” he said.
By the end of 2023, EDM had incurred losses of around 30 million meticais (426 thousand euros) due to the vandalization of infrastructure in the country, a reduction compared to the previous year (2022), in which they totalled around 41 million meticais. meticais (584 thousand euros).
