This Monday, an armed group robbed a vehicle belonging to evangelical Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG/IURD ) in Maputo, seizing six million meticais (86 thousand euros), the Mozambican police told Lusa.
The robbery took place around 8 am on Avenida Mohamed Siad Barre, in the Mozambican capital, said Leonel Muchina, spokesperson for the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in the city of Maputo.
“They arrived and threatened the driver of the vehicle [Mahindra] who was accompanied by another occupant. They broke his right side window to force him to open the doors, and removed from the vehicle a suitcase containing six million meticais”, said Leonel Muchina.
An amateur video circulating on social media shows the moment of the robbery, when a Toyota Fortuner vehicle blocks another, a Mahindra vehicle, right outside the Francisco Manyanga Secondary School.
Leonel Muchina said that the robbed vehicle was leaving the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God and was heading to a bank to deposit the money.
The spokesperson said that the victims of the assault filed a complaint with the police and that “steps are being taken to clarify the case”.
