The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, has congratulated Alain Berset on his recent and “well-deserved” election to secretary general of the Council of Europe.
“Your appointment to such a prestigious role is testament to the hard work, dedication and exceptional skills that you will replicate at the Council of Europe. We vividly remember the close ties forged with Mozambique during your term as president of the Swiss Confederation, as well as your commitment to building a strong partnership in the search for peace,” reads the head of state’s message.
“While I wish your excellency every success in carrying out your new duties, I remain available to work on strengthening our cooperation for the benefit of the Council of Europe and Mozambique,” Nyusi adds.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on June 25 elected Alain Berset, a Swiss, as Secretary General of the Council of Europe for a five-year term beginning on September 18 of this year.
