The executive director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) said on Wednesday that works in districts affected by terrorism in the Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado would be delivered on schedule, by the end of 2025.
“We feel that we will be able to deliver the expected results by the end of 2025, 143 works with a huge impact on health, education, water and business development,” said Jorge Moreira da Silva after delivering carpentry and civil construction kits to the Mieze penitentiary in Metuge district, for the training of inmates.
Under the NCRP project in #CaboDelgado, in addition to infrastructure projects for basic services, @UNOPS is also managing vocational training initiatives reaching 11,000 youth.

The 143 construction and rehabilitation projects are in the districts of Mocimboa da Praia, Palma and Macomia, regions severely affected by terrorism, with the areas of health, education and water being the most covered by the United Nations initiative.
“We are talking about around 40 schools and 24 health centres, water supply systems, community markets and business incubators. Yesterday [Tuesday] we concluded and handed over to the government a health centre and in the coming weeks and months we will go on completing all the infrastructure, up until the end of 2025,” the deputy secretary-general of the United Nations said during a one-day working visit to Cabo Delgado to learn about the projects financed by the World Bank and implemented by UNOPS under the Northern Crisis Recovery Project (NCRP).
Since 2022, UNOPS has led the implementation of support to more than one million displaced people from all districts of Cabo Delgado, a province affected by terrorist attacks for almost seven years. The support is worth US$200 million (around €187 million), financed by the World Bank and intended for development and humanitarian projects in the region.
