The Council of Ministers on Tuesday approved the revision of Decree No. 41/2017 of August 4, on the Regulation of the Audiovisual and Cinema Law, aiming to encourage, promote and protect the development of audio-visual and cinematographic activities in the country.
The revised decree simplifies procedures inherent to licensing audio-visual and cinematographic activities in line with the implementation of guidelines to reduce bureaucracy in public administration.
The revised decree speeds up electronic licensing and brings it closer to the citizen, exempts music videos from fees, reduces fees for providing excerpts of images from the National Film Archive to Mozambican and foreign producers, waives research or pre-production fees for national filming and eliminates the viewing fee for movie theatres.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism notes that the revised decree represents an increase in public investment to promote audio-visual and cinematographic production in Mozambique and encourages the development of the music industry.
The newly approved document is the result of intense consultation with the main players in the audio-visual and cinema value chain across the country and with international experts in the field.
