As of this Monday (10-06), traffic on the Avenue Marginal between Costa do Sol and the Radisson Hotel in Maputo city will, from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. on weekdays, occupy four lanes.
Municipal councillor for Urban Mobility and Transport, Fernando Uache, says the measure aims to make road traffic more flexible in the mornings.
According to a note from the municipality, the pilot test assessing the practicality of the scheme is being overseen by a team comprising the Mozambique Road Network (REVIMO) and Municipal Police officers.
“We are addressing a long-standing concern of drivers and, depending on the success of the experiment, traffic may improve significantly over the next few days in this part of the country’s capital,” Councillor Uache explained.
