A passenger on a Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) flight to Lisbon carrying the Mozambican football team was unconscious under medical supervision for seven hours of the flight, the carrier revealed, in a statement issued on Saturday.
The LAM statement reveals that the passenger experienced health problems three hours after the plane took off from Maputo, and was unconscious for the remaining seven hours of the flight to Lisbon.
“To assist the passenger with health problems, the crew counted on the assistance of six doctors who were on board,” the note details. “Care was provided by three doctors from the national football team – Raúl Cossa, Monteiro Fumo and Alberto Solomone – and three doctors from the Ministry of Health of Mozambique – Dalila Rego, Clotilde Rego Nhatave and Dulce Loforte.” The doctors’ humanitarian gesture saved the passenger’s life, the LAM statement highlights.
LAM does not specify whether the woman was part of the national football team delegation.
The Mozambican football team travelled to Lisbon on Friday before heading from there to Morocco, where this Monday they will play against Guinea-Conakry in a fourth-round Group G qualification match for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
