Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Carlos Mesquita, has urged those involved in the PDUNM-Northern Mozambique Urban Development Project to find ways to accelerate the implementation of the programme, so that improvement is more noticeable within communities.
Minister Mesquita was speaking in Pemba at the second session of the PDUNM consultative committee this Wednesday.
The PDUNM is a government initiative supported by the World Bank which aims to improve access to urban infrastructure and living conditions in the municipalities of Nampula, Nacala, Pemba and Montepuez.
The minister asked the project implementation team to redouble their efforts so that planned activities are carried out within the scheduled period.
He highlighted public lighting projects, road rehabilitation and housing improvement as among those to be completed and delivered this year.
Minister Mesquita expressed satisfaction with the fulfilment of some recommendations arising from the first PDUNM session, held last year in the neighbouring province of Nampula.
The meeting was attended by the Secretaries of State for Nampula and Cabo Delgado provinces, mayors of the four municipalities and other stakeholders. It was convened to assess the progress and challenges recorded last year, plan actions for the next twelve months, and bring new councillors up to speed on the program.
