The Coral South project in Area 4 of the Rovuma Basin has already made 58 export shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) since the start of commercial operations in November, 2022.
Information provided on Monday by the executive administrator for the Research and Production Department of the National Hydrocarbon Company (ENH), Rudêncio Morais, indicates that 18 of the shipments mentioned were completed this year.
Rudêncio Morais was speaking in Maputo at the Mozambique-Italy Business Forum, an event aimed at seeking partnerships between the two countries in the energy, infrastructure, logistics, construction and agricultural transformation sectors.

The Coral Sul platform, installed around 30 kilometres offshore the district of Palma in Cabo Delgado province, is operated by the Italian oil company Eni, on behalf of Area 4 partners Mozambique Rovuma Venture, Galp, Kogas and ENH, and has the capacity to produce 3.3 million tons of liquefied natural gas per year.
Since the middle of last year, the country saw an average of four to five LNG cargo vessels per month leaving Cabo Delgado for the international market.
It was in this context that Morais spoke of the need to take advantage of the opportunities created by the Coral Sul project.

“We have to create conditions to multiply natural gas production in Mozambique. ENH is positioned in a parallel vision. The first is to provide gas in a transition process, and the second is to explore opportunities for the country to contribute to the energy transition,” he said.
