The British government has guaranteed $450 million in funding for the second and third phases of the Chimuara-Nacala power transmission project in the provinces of Zambézia and Nampula.
This investment will be provided through the British company Gridworks, supported by British International Investment (BII). It will finance the construction of infrastructure for the project, which is designed to meet the energy demands of economic zones in Mocuba in Zambézia province, Nacala in Nampula, and major enterprises in Cabo Delgado.
This information was shared in Maputo yesterday by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Silvino Moreno, and the British High Commissioner to Mozambique, Helen Lewis, during the third in a series of meetings between the two countries.
The implementation of the first phase, the contract for which was signed in October, 2019, included the Chimuara/Alto Molócuè section, completed with US$200 million in financing from the Islamic Development Bank.
