Sociologist and professor emeritus at the University Eduardo Mondlane, Carlos Serra, will deliver a lecture entitled “Have the sciences contributed to the making of more just societies?” at the Association of Mozambican Writers (AEMO) in Maputo on Thursday, August 25, at 17:30.
The lecture marks Serra’s debut in the AEMO lecture cycle, and is presented as a variation on a theme of the Dijon Academy competition in 1749 to which Jean-Jacques Rousseau responded.
The AEMO 2016 lecture cycle kicked off in March with a lecture by Professor Teresa Manjate titled ‘Oral Literature and New Paradigms’. This was followed in April by philosopher Severino Ngoenha who spoke on the theme ‘Philosophy and War’. Speakers still to come – last Thursday of the month until November – are Benedito Sitoe, António Cabrita, Francisco Noa and António Pinto de Abreu.
