At least four large Italian companies, with annual production valued at more than five billion dollars, have expressed a desire to cooperate with their Mozambican counterparts.
These are: Fincantieri, specialised in the construction of large ships; Leonardo, a high-tech industrial group working in the areas of defence, aerospace, security, automation, transport and energy; Saipem, an Italian multinational providing services linked to hydrocarbon exploration; and Maire Tecnimont, an engineering company linked to renewable energy.
To this end, Maputo will host the Mozambique-Italy Business Forum on the 4th and 5th of June.
The information was shared by the Italian ambassador to Mozambique, Gianni Bardini, speaking to journalists in Maputo on Friday.
“We will have four large companies that are some of the main pillars of the Italian economy, Fincantieri, Leonardo, Saipem and a lesser-known one here, Maire Tecnimont. We are talking about US$5 billion,” Ambassador Bardini revealed.
He announced that at least 30 Italian companies operating in Mozambique have expressed interest, of which 20 have already confirmed their presence.
The president of the Mozambique-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CCMI), Simone Santi, said that the objective of the forum was to create partnerships as the basis for generating value between Italian and Mozambican companies.
Thus, 30 Italian companies will have the opportunity to find sub-suppliers, partners, local agents to be represented or to work with them.
“This is a continuation of activity in October last year, when a mission of around 40 Mozambican companies visited Italy with the main objective of creating partnerships,” Santi noted.
The event will bring together Italian shipbuilding majors, technological giants, oil and gas companies, power generation and renewable energy, food production, logistics and infrastructure.
“We think that the basis of Mozambique’s interest is the exploration of resources,” Santi added.
The CCMI said it will welcome around 200 companies to the forum, inviting “the national business community to participate and present themselves in the best way” at the event.
Companies will be selected from those registered via “the Mozambique-Italy Chamber of Commerce portal or the Confindustria portal in Italy”.
