The University of Coimbra (UC) and the Mozambique Stock Exchange (BVM) signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday (24), aimed at strengthening international cooperation between both entities.
The document, signed by the UC rector, Amílcar Falcão, and the CEO of the BVM, Salim Valá, on the sidelines of the Mozambique-Portugal Business Forum, held in Lisbon, envisages the establishment of academic, scientific, and cultural cooperation, with a priority focus on collaboration in the economic, legal, management, accounting and auditing, and communication and information technologies areas.
“Under the agreement, the parties will develop capacity-building initiatives, participate jointly in academic events and research activities to improve management systems and corporate governance,” said a publication by Notícias UC.
According to the BVM representative, this cooperation will assist their entity in enhancing the regulatory framework for the capital market and stock exchange, benefiting from the good practices used in the European capital market.
“The BVM aims, with this partnership with the University of Coimbra, to have access to opportunities for technological modernization and to gather relevant experiences for the introduction of new products and financial instruments,” he added.
The two institutions also propose to collaborate in attracting Portuguese and European investors to the Mozambican market and to conduct studies and consultations that contribute to boosting the secondary market in the country. The University of Coimbra (UC) is a public institution located in the city of Coimbra, Portugal. It is one of the oldest universities in the world still in operation.
