The Pedagogical University awarded honorary and merit diplomas to various institutions and individuals from different fields for their contribution to the development of the university and education in the country.
Personalities and institutions from various areas of development, who have contributed to education and scientific research over the past years, were recognized this Monday by the Pedagogical University of Maputo. The university, which sees itself as a research institution for development, acknowledges a trajectory of growth thanks to the support of these stakeholders.
According to the rector of UP Maputo, Jorge Ferrão, this contribution helps the university to improve and establish itself as a university on the national and international stage. “Together, we can strengthen ourselves as a multicultural institution, promoting academic exchange and mutual understanding among different educational and cultural contexts,” explained Jorge Ferrão.
Among those awarded with the Honorary Diploma are embassies, financial institutions, investors, and actors in social intervention. Among them are the embassies of Finland, Portugal, France, South Korea, Spain, Germany, Brazil, Tanzania, South Africa, and the High Commission of India.
Among the national institutions recognized are the Stock Exchange, National Petroleum Institute, Huawei Mozambique, Total Energy, BCI, BIM, AGA KHAN Foundation, FDC, Peace Park Foundation, Mask Foundation, Alcance Editores, French-speaking University Agency, FNI, UNAIDS, UNICEF, Natura, Biofund, Camões Portuguese Institute, IPAJ, CFM, and Soico Group.
The Merit Diploma was awarded to individuals linked to science, public intervention, and culture who, each in their own way, contribute to education.
Speaking of culture, why not include more Mozambican arts and traditions in the curriculum, as suggested by musician Stewart Sukuma, also an awardee.
“We need to rethink our education to establish an education that respects our traditions and symbols, to cultivate respect for our identity and what is ours,” explained Stewart Sukuma, musician/awardee.
