The new Ambassador of Mozambique to Portugal, Stella Pinto Zeca, promised this weekend in Lisbon to work “hard” for the Mozambican community in Portugal and appealed for collaboration from everyone.
“I want the Embassy to be close to the community” so that it (the community) “feels its presence,” said Stella Pinto Novo Zeca, speaking this Saturday in her first contact with the Mozambican community after being accredited by the Portuguese head of state, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, on February 19th.
“The house is yours,” emphasized the new ambassador, promising to work for everyone, regardless of party affiliation, in an audience of about 100 Mozambicans at a tourist resort in Lisbon. She also promised to consolidate the work of her predecessor, Joaquim Bule, by improving services to Mozambicans.
During Bule’s term, the Mozambican community in Portugal achieved various milestones, including the ability to obtain a Criminal Record, Passport, and Identity Card, among other services, without having to travel to Maputo.
At the event, the new team that makes up the Embassy in Portugal and the Consulate in Lisbon was presented. Currently, over six thousand Mozambicans live in Portugal.
A teacher by profession, graduated from the Pedagogical University (UP), Stella Novo Zeca was appointed Ambassador in January of this year by the Mozambican head of state, Filipe Nyusi.
In the municipal elections of October 2023, Stella Novo Zeca was the head of the list for Frelimo, the ruling party in Mozambique, for the municipality of Beira, in the central province of Sofala, and lost to Albano Carige, candidate for his own succession by the Mozambique Democratic Movement (MDM), the second opposition party.
Between 2020 and 2023, Stella Novo Zeca served as Secretary of State for Sofala.
Her career also includes a stint in the southern province of Gaza, where she served as governor.
