The National Institute for Disaster Management and Reduction (INGD) in Maputo province urges the population in flood-prone areas to seek out accommodation centers set up to assist the victims.
This appeal comes in light of the forecast of rain in the southern region of the country this week.
In addition to schools, places of worship in the municipalities of Matola, Matola-Rio, Marracuene, and Boane are available to accommodate the victims.
Given the prediction of rainfall above 30 millimeters expected, the INGD delegate in Maputo province mentioned that the institution is currently working with local authorities to disseminate messages for precautionary measures.
Sara Matchess made these statements this past Friday during a monitoring visit of the damage caused by the rain that affected the municipality of Matola last week.
The official reiterated the readiness of the INGD, noting that there are currently about a hundred tons of various products and shelter equipment available for those in need.
