From March onwards, Niassa province will benefit from a Kulungwana grant financed by the European Union (EU), operating under the motto: “I Am Young and I Bet on the Arts” (Sou Jovem e Aposto na Arte). The project will benefit associations, non-legal cultural groups, teenagers and young people, increasing respect for human rights and citizenship.
During the presentation of the project by its manager, Luzumira Graça Simbine, to the Provincial Executive Council, the governor of Niassa Province, Elina Judite da Rosa Victor Massengele, welcomed the project, and pledged to closely monitor its progress.
Among various activities carried out since March 1, when the project debuted, were visits to the locations where the project will operate, illustrative presentations of local instruments used in the province, and the induction of culture sector technicians who will be involved.
Manager Luzumira Graça Simbine explained during the induction that it served as a means of adopting strategies for creating interactivity between children, young people and adolescents, to improve respect for human dignity and empower girls through cultural expression.
Simbine added that the Cantate Project also aimed to develop life skills and an education focused on citizenship, using cultural expressions commonly found in Lichinga, such as music, theatre, crafts and choral arts, among others.
Activities to be carried out until the end of the year were also planned.
The Province of Niassa plans to train 100 students aged between 10 and 30 years old.
A total of 100 non-legalized associations, cultural groups and individual artists (also non-legalized) will also be trained in matters of management, ethics and professional deontology of the artist and entrepreneurship.
