“It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our dear father, husband, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, godfather, boss and leader, Mr Iskandar Safa. A warrior to the end, he had been battling a serious illness for the last few months. He died on his feet in Mougins on 29 January 2024, surrounded by the warmth of his family and friends.
The founder and driving force of our Group, Iskandar Safa dedicated his life to his family and his businesses. In keeping with his memory and values, his family will continue to maintain, preserve and develop his legacy and the industrial adventure he pioneered.
We will always remember his solar energy, his benevolence, his formidable intellectual acuity, his profound kindness, his great sense of humour and his deep love for those close to him. We ask that the privacy of his family be respected during this time of mourning.”
Iskandar Safa was co-founder and CEO of the Privinvest Group that owned German shipyard Nobiskrug before its bankruptcy in 2021, in addition to CMN. Raised in Lebanon, Iskandar received a civil engineering degree from the University of Beirut, before gaining an MBA from the INSEAD institute in Fontainebleau, France in 1982.
An interview with SuperYacht Times in 2019 Iskandar shared an insight into his background and his introduction to the yachting industry with the acquisition of French shipyard in the 1990s, which he transformed from a struggling company into a thriving enterprise in the space of two years. In addition, Privinvest had a portfolio of naval shipyards and activities also within Germany including German Naval Yards Kiel (GNYK).
