A Bombardier Q400 aircraft operated by Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) has been grounded at Chingodzi International Airport in the city of Tete since last night, after a technical problem prevented it taking off to Maputo.
A source from LAM contacted by MZNews said that the plane should have left at 8:50 p.m. yesterday (23-01), bound for the capital with 44 passengers on board. However, already on the runway and about to take off, passengers were informed that there had been a technical problem and were told they would be disembarked while the problem was resolved.
There being found no solution to the problem, the flight was cancelled, disrupting the schedules and commitments of the Maputo-bound customers.
Meanwhile, according to the same source, 22 of the 44 passengers this morning boarded a relief aircraft sent by LAM, with the remaining 22 passengers were expected to be on their way by 1:00 p.m. today.
A LAM source also confirmed that a technical team has already been sent to Tete to repair the aircraft.
