Some neighbourhoods in the Greater Maputo Region have been experiencing restrictions in water supply since the weekend, limiting the normal course of domestic activities for residents.
Children, teenagers, young people and adults are walking the streets of the Machava-Sede, Trevo and Matola A neighbourhoods, in Matola Municipality, with empty drums, looking for water to at least drink.
Deficiencies in the water supply are also affecting part of Maputo city itself, particularly the Central and Polana neighbourhoods, where condominium owners find themselves forced to use tanker water supply.
A note issued by Águas da Região Metropolitana de Maputo acknowledges the anomalies in supply to the cities of Maputo, Matola and Vila de Boane, attributed to recent bad weather.
The situation, according to the note, has damaged some of the company’s infrastructure, but interventions are reportedly underway to normalise the service.
