Four major mining companies operating in Nampula have closed due to the low price of coal in international markets, provincial Director of Mineral Resources and Energy Olavo Deniasse has announced.
Authorities are concerned the situation will leave many workers unemployed.
The Governor of Nampula, Victor Borges, says that the answer is “to increase domestic production and collect more taxes”, with the increased tax collection allowing investment for the benefit of the population as a whole.
