President Filipe Nyusi on Wednesday appointed Renamo deputy Eduardo Namburete to the position of Ambassador to Algeria, the head of state’s office announced in a statement.
Eduardo Namburete is one of the most influential members of the Mozambican National Resistance (Renamo) and is also a professor at the Eduardo Mondlane University School of Communications and Arts.
Namburete was a member of the main opposition party delegation in negotiations with the government to end the clashes between the Defence and Security Forces and the armed wing of Renamo.
In 2022, the Mozambican president appointed former Renamo number two, Raul Domingos, to the position of Ambassador to the Holy See – the first opposition politician to be appointed to the role.
Yesterday’s Presidency of the Republic press release also reports that Filipe Nyusi appointed Fortunato Albrinho to the position of High Commissioner of Mozambique to the Republic of Ghana and Alexandre Herculano Manjate to the position of High Commissioner of Mozambique to the Republic of Malawi.
In another presidential order, the head of state dismissed Osvalda Joana from her position as High Commissioner to the Republic of Ghana.
