The electoral campaign director for the ruling Frelimo party, Celso Correia, denies that he is behind the fraud recorded in the Municipal elections held on 11 October.
In several public statements, Renamo, the largest opposition party in Mozambique, accused Celso Correia of being the architect of part of the alleged electoral fraud in the sixth municipal elections, in which Frelimo won 60 municipalities.
However, Correia, who is also Minister of Agriculture, claims that his political party does not condone fraud.
“The competent institutions have already done their work on the matter and we are a party that does not tolerate fraud, and we are pleased that the party has managed to win the vote and the trust of the majority of Mozambicans”, he said, cited by the Maputo daily independent paper “O País.”
The most important thing at the moment, he said, is to design policies that respond to the needs of those who voted and those who didn’t vote for Frelimo.
“We have major challenges in terms of employment and transport in urban areas, that’s what’s most important, the party has to be able to design policies that respond to these needs”, he said.
