The Mozambican Health Minister, Armindo Tiago, has challenged Maputo Central Hospital (HCM), the largest health unit in Mozambique, to migrate from curative to preventive medicine in order to reduce the number of patients seeking care in the National Health System.
According to Tiago, who was speaking on Thursday at the orthopedic services of the HCM, on the occasion of the “Solidarity Christmas”, organized by the Ministry of Health (MISAU), “we will have to migrate from our assistance medicine to preventive medicine, because we have diseases that can be prevented.”
“We must prevent diseases in order to reduce the number of patients in this Health Unit, which would also improve the quality of services provided”, he added.
The minister called for Mozambican society to promote acts of generosity, especially for the sick.
“Let’s bring love and affection to everyone who is going through a difficult time in a hospital bed and think that everything can pass, suffering and pain can end”, he said.
The Minister also promised to build a nursery and operating theatre for the hospital in 2024.
“The future suggests that next year could be decisive for this hospital, with the construction of our long-awaited nursery block eventually starting, as well as the surgical block that has been planned for a long time”, he said.
“We’re going to keep the Christmas spirit alive in order to build a present and a future in which we can always be present and close to each other, nobody is going to do anything on their own”, he concluded.
