Camões Maputo: Colibri Noir literary magazine presents November edition
At 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6, the Camões Centro Cultural Português in Maputo hosts the public presentation of the November edition of the literary magazine Colibri Noir, directed by Teresa Noronha, coordinated by António Cabrita and with creative direction by Mélio Tinga.
Colibri Noir aims to disseminate African culture and literature from the Maghreb to the Cape; the dissemination of what women write in other traditions and cultures around the world; establish a two-way route between Mozambican artists and writers and the literary circuits of other Portuguese-speaking countries; and promote Mozambican visual arts, with each edition fully illustrated by a guest artist.
In this sense, Colibri Noir is a project that aims to be cosmopolitan, organised and produced from Maputo. To publicise it, and taking into account the difficulty of distribution and local sales, the organising team has since the first issue been promoting unique presentation and debate sessions in institutions such as cultural centres and universities in the city of Maputo.
In the November edition of Colibri Noir magazine, we can learn more about the work of Nimrod, a poet from Chad, and Mozambican poet Florindo Mudender, follow the interview with Cape Verdean José Luis Tavares, read a short story by Zukiswa Wanner (South Africa) and another by Mélio Tinga (Mozambique). In the new Spanish narrative, we can meet Miguel Barrero, Margarita Leoz and Laura Fernández, in an edition that features illustrations by Filipe Branquinho and with the support of the Spanish Embassy in Mozambique.
During the initiative hosted at Camões – CCP Maputo on December 6th, these contents from the November edition (the magazine's third) will be presented with poems recited by Fernando Luís Sampaio (Portugal/Mozambique - anthologized in No. 2 of Colibri), José Luís Tavares (Cape Verde), Nimrod (Chad), and Rita Taborda Duarte (Portugal, also in No. 2 of Colibri).
This literary evening also features a dialogue between António Cabrita and Mélio Tinga, about the new generation of Mozambican poetry.
