Cape Verde’s Djam Neguin shows ‘Ná-Ná’ in Maputo, Mozambique
Djam Neguin - a multifaceted Cape Verdean emerging artist with an extensive career in music, theatre, and dance. - is in Maputo to participate in the Africa Dance Biennial with his solo project Ná-Ná, an event that takes place on Friday 24-11 in the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre.
The Ná-Ná character takes a "hallucinatory , futuristic sound journey, deconstructing and reconstructing imagery" from the Cape Verdean funaná genre.
Djam Neguin told Inforpress that it is with "great enthusiasm" that he is participating in the "largest contemporary dance event" on the continent, and that it is with "great privilege and satisfaction" that he accepts the opportunity to create connections and partnerships with producers, artists and programmers from around the world.
In addition to presenting a plot that questions notions of gender, tradition, technology and an original and creative look at Cape Verdean culture, Djam Neguin says that the piece requires, "in a certain way", the exercise of imagination from funaná, a traditional Cape Verde dance.
"The activity also means a moment to realize the importance of increasingly making a connection with the African continent, we have a wealth of expressions, circuits and festivals within the continent itself," he highlights.
The artist on Thursday (22-11) participated in a panel titled "Dancing in Africa - international mobility, training and partnerships", at the Galeria of the Port of Maputo.
