The rehabilitation and expansion works on National Highway Number 4 (N4) could be completed within 20 days, according to Trans African Concessions (TRAC).
Director of Maintenance at TRAC, Fenias Mazive, told Notícias that asphalting work on the main road will be intensified in the coming days. This will, however, imply new restrictions on vehicular traffic, especially on the viaduct close to the Vehicle Inspection Centre.
“TRAC guarantees that delivery deadlines for the main road will be met by December 16th. At this time, the contractor has been instructed to intensify work only on the main road, and will concentrate on finishing work next January. Therefore, on some days we will see restricted traffic, with an alternative diversion from Malhampsene to the city of Matola,” Fenias Mazive said.
Asked about traffic management during the festive season, Mazive said that there would be no surprises, as the work will by then have been finished.
“All work on the N4 will be stopped from the 16th of December in order to free up the road so that it can be used without restrictions by users, especially those coming from South Africa,” Mazive said, noting that the project is already 93% complete.
