A 42-year-old man is being held in the cells of Maputo’s 3rd PRM police station, accused of kidnapping a hotel and tourism businessman in October, 2021, Noticias reports.
The information was provided yesterday by Maputo police spokesperson Lionel Muchina, who recalled that the victim, son of businessman Salimo Abdula, had been kidnapped while attending a wedding.
“The son of the Mozambican businessman was approached at the time by individuals who had been watching him participate in a wedding in Benoni. The criminals were disguised as police officers , approaching the victim to take him into captivity,” he said.
Cited by Notícias this Tuesday, Muchina said that four suspects had already been arrested, and the authorities were making efforts to neutralise the other members of the group.
He explained that the interrogation of the detainee had facilitated the collection of information useful to clarifying the crime.
Muchina stressed that the arrest resulted from operative actions carried out by the corporation and other national and foreign forces, with the aim of clarifying the crime and locating the remaining fugitives.
However, the detainee denies any involvement in the kidnapping and admits only to knowing the other parties involved in the kidnapping, while not himself participating. He stated that he worked as a sales agent at a car wash garage in the Republic of South Africa.
