India’s minister for petroleum and gas, Dardeep S Puri, said on Monday in Maputo that Mozambique and his country “have the potential to increase economic ties”, based on the “excellent bilateral relations” between the two states.
Puri was speaking to journalists after a meeting with the Mozambican president, Filipe Nyusi.
The two countries, he continued, could expand cooperation in areas such as agriculture, agribusiness, railways and biofuels.
“India is part of the new global biofuels alliance initiative with Brazil, the United States of America and other countries, and Mozambique can be part of this initiative,” he highlighted.
The friendly relationship between Filipe Nyusi and the Indian head of state, Narendra Modi, can be an important pillar for the intensification of economic and commercial relations between the African and Asian countries, the Minister for Oil and Gas of India continued.
Dardeep S. Puri pointed out that India has investments of up to US$11 billion (€10.3 billion) in the energy sector in Mozambique, a country with which it has commercial exchanges valued at up to US$4 billion (€3.7 million) per year.
