Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) will resume flights to Lisbon from December 12th, a service to be carried out by Fly Modern Ark, which will charge LAM US$42,000 per trip
Also starting again soon is a service between Maputo and Cape Town, at a cost to LAM of US$85,000 per month.
After so many announcements, tickets are now on sale for three Maputo-Lisbon-Maputo flights per week, starting on December 12th.
However, the operation will not be run by LAM, as they do not yet have sufficient knowledge for intercontinental connections, General Director Pó Jorge explains.
It is estimated that the 10-hour Lisbon connection will cost LAM US$42,000 per trip, but Fly Modern Ark says this is sustainable, because each flight can potentially earn LAM US$600,000. After deducting operational costs plus US$42,000, the company could be left with up to US$320,000 in earnings.
Another flight that will come into operation, from November 22nd, is the Maputo-Cape Town link. The arrangement is more or less the same, but with the difference that that it will in this case cost LAM US$85,000 per month, the charge not being calculated on an hourly basis.
