The judicial court of the city of Tete has sentenced defendants found to be involved in the embezzlement of around 62 million meticais via the Tete BAU and INAS platforms to prison terms of four to eight years, Radio Mozambique reports.
The sentence, read on Friday by Judge João Victorino, indicated that the defendants committed crimes including embezzlement, illegal participation in business and abuse of position and trust.
However, there was no evidence of their participation in money laundering, the judge added.
Judge Victorino stressed that in addition to the prison sentences, those convicted would have to pay daily fines corresponding to one-fifth of the minimum public service salary for six months to a year.
